  • "Because We Care"

Ever notice something that's been in plain sight, right in front of your eyes, for the first time? I mean something that you see every day, but tune it out because you see it so often. Driving down the road and think "Hey, where did that house come from?" or "I don't remember a restaurant being there."

With me, it's the sign mentioned above; "Because We Care."

I first truly noticed it when I was bringing in the electric mobility carts from the parking lot one day. I looked down and there it was; "This cart is provided to you by Lowe's, BECAUSE WE CARE." My first thought was "Care about what?"

But now I notice this sign (in one shape or form) everywhere: Gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, even, believe it or not, posted in front of 5 parking spaces at the funeral home close by. And it's really starting to annoy me. Do they really care? Probably not.

And all the things this sign is posted on is nothing I really want or need to use. If you really cared about me, give me a checkout line free of little old ladies with huge change purses. If you really cared, don't make me wait for 10 minutes in the drive thru while talking to your co-workers about your weekend.

The funniest place I saw this sign was at a local grocery store. It was in big letters over the cart corrals. It said:
Please return your shopping carts here
Because we care about you and your car
We are not responsible for damage to your car caused by shopping carts

Maybe I'm too cynical. Maybe these companies really do care about me.

    Who am I kidding?

They don't care. I've never received a birthday card from them. They just want my money.
Age and wisdom don't necessarily go together. Some people just become stupid with more authority.

"Who put the goat in there? The yellow goat I ate."

Not quite the same, but I only recently noticed the sign above our till point; "PLEASE PAY HERE". This huge big black box thing suspended from two cylinders, stating the somewhat obvious.

Plus apparently that huge ass sign above the express lane that states "Baskets Only" is apparently invisible to most customers.

Hey, it's not obvious to some of these mouthbreathers!

In my case, it's rather the reverse. I'll be so used to seeing someone/something every day that when said person/item is no longer around, I won't notice for a while. Handler of the obvious, I am not.
