  • I QUIT!

As I mentioned in a GWC thread, I had an interview at a resort. Didn't get offered a supervisory position, but did get offered a desk clerk position. Full time, more money than I currently make, and equivalent benefits to what I currently get. Yes, please and thank you!

So I typed up my notice, which I kept sweet and short: I'm leaving for other employment opportunities and my last available day is August 4th.

I called Other MOD, because she said she wanted to be there when I gave my notice. I sent my notice via email on my way to work, walked into the office, and told Boss Lady (with Other MOD there) to check her email because I just sent her my notice that I'm quitting.

Boss Lady went to the bank, came back and told me thank you for the notice and to clock out and go home. Given how she likes to treat me like dirt, that was somewhat expected. (The last two employee cookouts we had, I was not informed of, nor were other CWs who exist outside of "Boss Lady's Favorite Employee Club". During shift changes, she would talk to Other MOD about stuff pertinent to my upcoming shift and act like I wasn't there. She accused me of fighting with staff, something I have never ever done, but because I simply asked some brown-noser to do their job they went crying to Boss Lady and she took their word for it. It was not becoming a pleasant work situation there. There's a whole MiM thread I could write about it.)

I start the new job in a week and a half. I have 2.5 weeks worth of vacation saved up, so I have plenty of money coming on my final check to cover the gap, and in fact am glad to have some time off to transition between jobs.

My new job is less responsibility, and more pay. Probably fewer crackheads, but I expect more entitled SCs at a fancy resort. (The interviewer was talking about how she was already getting calls from guests whining about how "the previous owners let me do such-and-such".)

The new job is at a golf resort that went into bankruptcy and closed last year and is reopening under new ownership. It's a big change from cheapy-cheap motel, and I know they will be cracking the whip hard on us to turn the property around and make it a success, but the prospect of that sort of challenge I find exciting. I know it will be stressful, but I'm hoping it will err more on the side of exciting and good stressful than depressing and soul-crushing stressful. So wish me luck!

Sounds like you were right to leave that place. I hope Boss Lady's attitude comes back to bite her.

Every new job is stressful. It does sound quite interesting though, and I hope it's everything you wanted. Good luck!
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Even though you don't have to work there any more, if you ever want some vengeance, most of that stuff falls under "workplace harassment" in the US...specifically, "Cold Shouldering" applies towards making it a hostile workplace. If nothing else, can let any friends you still have working there know, which could make her life more interesting later.

Or, if you're not vindictive like I am, enjoy your new job instead.

Filled out the new employee paperwork today. I'm officially on the books! Orientation is starting soon. Thoroughly enjoying vacation in the meantime.

Was amused that after I filled out the paperwork, including their cell phone acknowledgment that basically says no cell phones on duty, I actually went out to the hotel and walked around (there is a walking trail around there as well as public beach access) and my phone welcomed me to Canada. That's a great way to deter employees from using their phones on duty I suppose -- use it and you rack up international data charges.

I could probably get her fired just by letting HR know her boyfriend was "filling in" for Maint Man (a major no-no). But I'm not that vindictive. I will leave those nuggets for other staff there. I know one CW is close to calling HR; she prefers to deal with things herself but she's getting pretty fed-up. (Her husband said he's been talking to Big Corporate Owners. Probably not working out too well for him.) I'm not the only one that Former Boss Lady hasn't treated well. There's still plenty of employees back there that don't like her.

If you've got a smartphone, TURN IT OFF AT WORK! A lot of smartphones use data for "housekeeping" purposes even when you're not actively using it.

I do believe that you can actually turn the mobile data OFF on most smartphones.

On iPhones, it falls under Settings > General > Mobile Data.

For HTC phones (not sure about any others) you can swipe from the top and select it from there.

I also have an app that tracks my data use, I can set it for any upper limit I want, though as long as I have my droid 1 [or don't sign a new contract to get a different 'free' phone] I have unlimited. Thankfully I take very good care of my phone, so it is still in excellent condition after 3 years and will probably keep chugging along for many more. Though I have never really tried maxing out my data use, housekeeping runs about 100-150 meg a month. I think I run another 100 meg or so a month emailing pictures and downloading books from Baen or other legit free books sites like Project Gutenberg. I did actually stream a movie a couple months ago when I got stuck waiting for some radiological and bloodwork to be done.

Same goes for Sony, and I guess all Droids that have the JellyBean OS or higher. My cellphone also has a function that automatically blocks data roaming the same moment you cross a border.
