  • The part of my job that I like

The other day I answered the phone and since it was so busy I decided to try to help the customer myself instead of transferring the call. She and hubs wanted a particular TV that we were out of. It was the last day of a special sale on it. It was available online, but that sale code can only be used in-store. What to do? I decided to see if it was at our sister store across town. After searching for a scanner and not having the website come up on my phone--and her having the model number but not our item number--I decided we needed to find a way to get her the discount anyway.

I asked Boss Lady if we could make it happen for her online, since she was willing to order and wait for it to arrive (just wanted the special sale). Boss Lady has all the tricks up her sleeve so I knew she'd have a solution. She did; we had the custy order for in-store pickup--no shipping cost and we'd extend the discount a couple of days just for her. She could hardly believe we'd do this and kept asking if I was sure it would be no problem. I told her not to worry and gave her my name and Boss Lady's name. I took down the custy's name and phone just in case and gave it to BL, since she's boss over the entire front end.

I love to make special things happen for people who are patient and nice when I try to help them. I felt she would've accepted a no if there was no way we could make it happen and that humble attitude made me inclined to do whatever I could to help her. It feels good to make someone happy. She might never know who I am, but it's enough that I made her day.
