  • Well, that was unexpected part 2

I'm of the opinion that, generally, anything that gets thrown my way at 4:55 PM is bad news. Never answer the phone 5 minutes before end of day, never open the locked door, just, no, avoid it all.

So when my boss called me into a surprise meeting at 4:55 PM today, I was a bit concerned. Then she told me that the position I supervise, which is currently open, is being eliminated immediately. My job and a coworker's matching position in our office are also being eliminated as of Friday.

So, my boss wanted to offer me a promotion for more money.

Ironically, the job duties they are offering me in the 'new' position are the duties I had when I was hired 6 1/2 years ago. Except I'll now be making $9K more per year for the same work. Also, I'm no longer salaried, but hourly as of Monday. And authorized for up to 10 hrs per week of overtime. So, I'll technically have less authority and responsibility for more money and paid overtime on top of it... Um, yes, please?

Tho, if he presented the info in the order you related it above, it makes me wonder if he was hoping one of you would have a sudden heart attack, thus reducing the number of folks he needs to promote ~_~
