  • We are ALL pet friendly!

Walking by a guest's room today, I noticed he had a tank of goldfish in there. You see, we're a pet friendly motel chain, and I mean all pets. Here's what I've personally witnessed guests bring in during my five years here:

    Cats
    Dogs
Goldfish (being actually taken on a vacation)
    Pleiko (Suckerfish)*
    Various other fish
42 beta fish, all in individual cups (the guest bred them and was moving up here)
    Guinea Pigs
    Hamsters
    Mice
    Gerbils
    Bunnies
    Chinchillas
    Turtles
    Tarantulas
    Snakes
    Scorpions
    Iguana
    Other Lizards
    Finches
    Parrots
    Parakeets

CW who has worked here longer has also seen:

    Mini horses
Big horses (kept out in trailers, thankfully)
    Goat
    Pot-Bellied Pig

So yeah, when we say we're "Pet Friendly", we mean we're really pet friendly!

*Hubby got a tank with two large goldfish and a pleiko from one of the guests a few years back. The goldfish unfortunately have passed on, though they had a good run. We still have the pleiko at home, though!

Reading through the list, I thought "At least the OP hasn't said horses, ha ha".

Wow, guess I was wrong. You're a zoo!

They have to be kept separate. They fight, otherwise.

That's awesome that you're so pet friendly. I did notice ferrets weren't on the list... I would totally come to your hotel, I want to take my babies with me wherever I go (they have cute little leads and sling bags that we carry them around in) and to find somewhere to accepting would be great!

I used to take my lizard with me to places, but didn't always tell them... including when I visited family members.

Also, I'm the kind of person that, if I had a pig, would take it on holiday with me lol (I would be damn sure the thing was as clean as possible first though)

When I worked at Motel Hell, we had a guest at one of our properties who did not keep their big horse out in its trailer. They didn't want to leave their horse in its trailer while they went to lunch one day, so they walked it into their room and off they went. It wasn't discovered until the housekeepers came to clean...

Wow. That must have been a WTF moment in their eyes. Open the door, and there is Mr. Ed.

I'm glad that your pet friendly.

What's so wrong about bringing fish? Pets are important, regardless of what type they are. You be surprised how utterly lonely people can be, and if fish is their only pal, then yeah, it's important to them.

Others are just moving, so they have to keep the fish.

Others might be hiding out from abusive relation, and was worried about their pet fish.

It may be just a fish to you, but to others, it's one of their dearest friends. Just cause it can't do tricks, cuddle with you, or talk to you in any real fashion, doesn't mean they are a lesser pet unworthy of going out on vaction.

I agree, and I love my Fish Who Must Not Be Named. Currently, he's swimming around next to my computer right now.

I think the OP meant though that it's just unusual that someone would go to the trouble of actually traveling with fish. An aquarium is a bitch to move. I should know -- I've moved a 25-gallon aquarium from one apartment to another, and then from one bedroom to another in my new apartment. Honestly, I can't imagine traveling with one long distance. I'm not even sure how you'd do that.

I trained my fish how to do tricks...
I would seriously bring Ryuu with me to a hotel. I mean, she's a little bearded dragon, not a horse! I'm sure she would love being able to look out the window or try to watch the tiny hotel television.
If I still had fish, I would bring them with too, especially if I was moving. My family has a thing where they dump bleach in the tank if I leave my fish under their care. (is that the wrong version of their?)

ONLY if it was a pet-friendly hotel though, I wouldn't dream of leaving those little critters for a hotelworker to find if it wasn't.

Few things I want to comment on, in no particular order...

                  1) Bearded dragons are sooooooo cute!
                  2) Bleach? In a fish tank sad face!
                  3) You used the correct version of 'their'

Thanks, I tried looking it up but I was even more confused when I did that.
My Ryuu is super adorable, especially when she's in my hoodie pocket or wrapped burrito-style in a blanket.
And yeah, more than once I've had my tank bleached. I don't keep fish in my parent's house anymore because of that.

Is there a rational explanation other than trying to kill the fish?

A lot of pet-friendly motels mention this on their websites. I once Googled pet-friendly hotels for friends who were traveling and found a number of places that advertised their places as pet-friendly.

When my sister moved back east from N. Dakota, she traveled with four rabbits and two parakeets. It took about 3 days, driving a U-haul, towing her car on a trailer with the pets stowed in their carriers in the car. Each night she had to lug the bunny cages and the bird cage into the motel (up some stairs once! ) and load them back up in the morning. She had researched the motels before she left to be sure it was OK to bring in the animals. It was a quite a trip!
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

You know, we've probably had ferrets, too. I can't remember coming across any, but I'm sure we've had them here at some point. I mean, we've had pretty much everything else!

Oh, and did I mention the pets all get to stay for free? No deposit? Yeah, pet owners love us.

Nope, just didn't want to take care of them, so "Oops, it looks like your fish died. It happens."
The the lizard is something mum wants, so she actually is trying to get me to let her take care of Ryuu. We brought her to the in-law's house last time we traveled.
