So our on-site apt. managers retired and there's a new lady and the management company bought the complex behind us. They are really cracking down on rules which I have no problem with but it's a) the lack of logic applied and b) rules that don't exist. We have received multiple notices on doors about various issues.
1. Some patios are looking "junky". OK, no explanation of junky aside from "Patios are meant for patio furniture only." I don't know if that means that the only furniture you can have is patio furniture or if it means that the only objects you can have out there are patio furniture items. Many tenants have plants and such and it looks nice, not junky. I hope that's not a problem; I like looking at it and I have lights. There's nothing in the lease prohibiting plants and decorative items and nothing about fines at all.
2. Snow removal: yes, I get that the plows have to get through. So if there are 2 or more inches of snow by 5:00 pm we have to have cars out by 9:00 am the next day. That's normally no problem for me; I have to be at work by 9:00. However, if we have a snow emergency and there is a foot the next morning, how in the world are we supposed to take cars somewhere else? The roads are probably practically impassable and I can tell you I'm working from home if that happens, boss' orders. And where exactly are the cars supposed to go? We can't park on the street ever. There's a parking lot in the business section across the street but I'm sure it will be plowed, too, so parking there is not a good idea. I guess the solution is to go to work if they'll take you. But some of my neighbors work overnight. It used to be that we had to move to the other end or at least be on watch so we could move out of the plow person's way. I wish I had a garage. There is a complex closer to work with them but there's a clause in the lease that says you can't move out Nov.-Feb. I have to give 60 days notice.
3. Inspections: I'm not against this, either, but I've fallen behind on cleaning because I work 7 days and have two medical issues that sometimes keep me from getting things done. It's not terrible but really not up to standard, though my friends disagree. (Maybe I'm picky.) Tuesday is my birthday and I've taken it off to deep clean. I'm just whining because I don't want to. I know I have to.
I suppose renting from my mom next year might be a good idea. I like my apt. and I like the view and I like that it's 6 minutes from work but I've been here 13 years but renting from a management company can be annoying. Plus the unit needs to be remodeled and that really needs to be done between tenants.
Thanks for letting me vent.
UPDATE: The notice on the door of Blondie's apartment was not picked up even by the day of inspection. Neither were several newspapers. I did see her light on through the sliding glass door so I let it be. I noticed the afternoon of inspection the note and newspapers gone and a kitchen trash can left outside the front door. This was yesterday. I just came home and saw some guy loading up a truck with bags of trash and I thought someone was moving. I went down my walk and saw he was carrying it out of her apartment. I could smell bleach and it sounded like there were multiple people in there. I don't hear her dog. The living room chair is still on the porch, I think. Now I'm wondering if she's alive. It's creeping me out.
