Default Christmas is coming early ....

A few days ago a woman came through my line with a basket of peppers. There was no barcode, but there was a four-digit code on the handle. I typed it into the register and the price came up as ... 0.58.

So even though we were very busy (is there another lockdown coming or something??) I called a supervisor over. This is the take-no-bullshit supervisor. She looked at the code, at the basket and at the price, and said "Let 'er have 'em."

So the woman got several dollars' worth of peppers for 58 cents.

This is not the only time something like this has happened. Another instance: a day or so ago two guys came through with a bunch of stuff. One item wouldn't scan. I tried typing in the numerical code below the barcode. System still didn't recognize the item ("Not in system").

Customer: "Haha, I guess that means it's free, right?"

Me: "Yep." *drops it into bag with his other groceries*

Me: "We're too busy to deal with this nonsense right now. Just don't tell the boss ..."

(FWIW, I doubt the boss would care either.)
