I have posted on the SC board once, but for those of you who don't remember me (I lurk a lot), I work at a major chain of candy stores (S---- F------), more specifically an independently owned franchise at a mall. My manager is also the owner. He never admonishes you personally, he always posts it on a bulletin board instead, for all to see, using no names. He does not pay me enough to work the way he expects me to. Sorry, for 7.75/hour, you get 7.75/hour workers. I am not making end's meet on this salary with nigh unto full time hours (just short of them).
Two weeks ago I called out for the whole week to be with my little sister. She had been critically injured in a car accident and was terrified. So, I went up there and stayed in the hospital with her, my mom and my grandmother. He talked behind my back about firing me to another employee (the only one I could stand and has since quit) over this. Obviously this ticked me off.
The girl he's assigned to the assistant manager's position (without title or pay) never talks to me, never smiles, is often on the phone and is younger than I. Frankly, she's unqualified and only has more experience with zero customer service.
While I'm usually ok with never hearing what I do right and only what I do wrong, the people, the workers, and the boss are wearing me down. It's all subtle but the idea of him firing me when he needs my help (and I know it) over me taking time off to be with my sister infuriates me.
So, advice? I've already looked for receptionist and secretarial work in my area, but being without a car limits me terribly (I bike to and from work).
