Have you ever heard Gordon Lightfoot's song about the Fitz? The song starts in the documentary, but this is probably one of the best videos accompanying the song ... it has news clips and historical shots of the Fitz at its launching, and radio conversations after the Fitz disappeared. Oh, and the lyrics.

I like story songs from that era and I'd heard it but had NO IDEA it really happened nor that it was on the Great Lakes. When I heard the song I always pictured a 19th-century wreck. I was 2 years and 1 month almost exactly when it happenened. Here's a cover where he reads the names at the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LRBmIqzO6o I've been watching a lot about cruises and the algorithm knows I like documentaries so it suggested this and a few vids about historical ships. Wow ... I did not know that about the captain's wife. That is so very sad, on top of everything else.

I also didn't know those other ships went back out into that hell to look for the Fitz.

34:36 -- what the hell kind of "friend" makes a phone call like that?!

And now I have to go open a new box of Kleenex. Well ... you did warn us.

Sounds like a great channel, thanks!

Wow ... I'd almost think that was Lightfoot singing, if I didn't know better ...
