NO not the shooting kind of drive-bys (although I every now and then wish I could)

    Just Passing By

late into the night tonight I got a triple run to addresses north of the store. in order to get there I usually will take one of the main north/south streets (hereafter called NS RD) to get to my destinations. I head up that road to my first stop, take a side street a couple of blocks (nowhere near the main street) and deliver my second drop. now my third drop is on North NS RD road (this is important in a minute). as I am leaving my second drop, my cell phone vibrates. I look to see who it is. the number comes up as the other closing driver. GREAT what happened now?????

    the following conversation happens
    OCD - Other closing driver
Me - who else??? your friendly neighborhood pizza slave

OCD - Hey RM we just got a complaint call about you
    Me -- ???????
OCD - a woman claims she has an order and you passed by her house like three times now.
Me -- ?????????? OK what is the address for the order
OCD -- 345 North NS Rd
Me -- OK?????? I passed that address on my way to my first 2 deliveries and I will be at 345 North NS Rd in like 2 minutes.

    OCD --- OK no prob.

I get to 345 North NS Rd and the woman is setting out on the porch. I have her sign the CC slip (yes the Scrooge wench stiffed me). I then asked her if she did indeed called the store to make some sort of complaint. "Yes", she answers "because you drove right by my house and did not stop. even AFTER I yelled at you to stop".

First thing is I ONLY PASSED your dump apt ONCE not THREE times as you claimed. second why is it that you THINK that you are THE ONLY CUSTOMER I have at the moment????? third WTF makes you think I am going to stop because someone yells at me????? and of course third YEAH no tip.

    Aicco Pizza

This one is from last week and happened to the OCD from the above story

we have been getting busy later on in the evening and into the night hours. delivery time on this particular night is running around 45 minutes as there are only 2 drivers on late at night so occasionaly we will get backed up a bit.

OCD = my fellow nut case closing driver
    DMP - Dumbass Parent

OCD makes this delivery with 5 minutes to spare on the "promise time" (or ETA). parent sends 9 year old to the door with money as DMP is drunk on the couch (not kidding on this one). the kid hands the money to OCD (along with a decent tip) and OCD gives the kid the pizzas (like $40 worth). DMP staggers off of the couch at this point and pipes in with this

DMP - WHAT THE HELL took you guy so long to deliver this order???????
OCD -- I am not sure what you mean sir????
DMP - WHY DID THIS ORDER TAKE SO LONG TO GET HERE???????

(NOTE: all of our tickets have times on them as in time order placed and ETA of the order. )

OCD - (while looking at the ticket) Well, sir, you placed the order at 11:00pm and you were quoted a delivery time of 11:45pm, so again I am not sure what you mean?????? We are a bit busy so the delivery time is around 45 minutes and I did get here with 5 minutes to spare of your quoted ETA.

DMP - Wellllllll by my calculation it should only take like 10 minutes to make and cook these pizzas and it should have only taken you like 5 minutes to drive here, SO WHY DID IT TAKE SOOOOOOO LONG TO GET MY ORDER???????

OCD - Well, again sir, you placed the order at 11:00pm and you were quoted a delivery time of 11:45pm, so again I am not sure what you mean??????

DMP --- GIMMME MY TIP BACK you worthless lump of crap.

OCD give the tip back (not that I agree with this but.....) and leaves

AGAIN why oh WHY does everyone think they are our ONLY customer??????
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

Drunk time and real time are two different things. Hungry drunk time is even more off. Add in EW to the hungry drunk time measurement, and you can't win. If the pizza had been there in 15 minutes the person would have complained that it should have taken 10.

Just out of curiosity on the first one...

If you had to pass by her house to get to the 1st order you delivered, why didn't you just stop and deliver hers first?

If I was your co-worker, I would have just turned and left and kept the tip. Guy was being a jerk.

Few things come to mind from when I used to delivery

          1) Ideally you deliver in the order that the orders come in, so if it came in last of the 3 delivery's it would be delivered last.

          2) It could depend on the type and side of the road the house was on. If it was a busy street.. I tried to route myself so the house would be on my right as a approached it, and also when I left. That way I didn't have cross traffic getting to, and leaving the house. UPS uses basically the same theory when they route their drivers..In the US They figured out that the less left turns and more right turns their drivers can make, it saves on time and fuel.

          3) They are smallest tipper of the 3 stops

This is a big one. My local delivery places all have learned I tip consistantly, so I often get my food still hot and melty. Occasionally too hot to actually eat right away. Delivery Karma.

Same here. In fact, tonight is pizza night. We order every Friday night and they practically recite our order to us.

                Plus we're good tippers, too.

The drunk guy that took his tip back...I would have put him on a DND (Do not deliver) list.

Tollbaby: what DWM said is exactly why.

first screaming woman's order was ETA'd for 10 minutes AFTER the first 2 deliveries. those first 2 deliveries were nearing their ETA time so those HAD to get there first.

Second yes screaming woman was on the wrong side of the street. I was going north which is on the east side of the street and her address is on the west side of the street. even though this was late enough at night, there is still some traffic on this road.

third --- yes known stiffer. sorry but if you do not appreciate my service I will route you near the bottom. I am of course a TIPPED employee and rely on tips for over half of my income with little car compensation from my company.

                    To Brojekk:

my company is a national chain. there ain't no such thing as a banned or Do NOT Deliver list allowed. we are forced to deliver to ALL who call regardless of their attitude, suckyness, scamming ways, or other things. to my company it is revenue/sales. to us employees/drivers it is a loss of income. not much we can do about it. unfortuneately this is industry wide esp in the larger chain places.

maybe it's just me but i tend to *not* watch the clock when pizzas are coming

sure i get hungry and i might get antsy and watch the parking lot but ... eh, i don't tip less.
hell my attitude is "you are bringing me tasty pizza! yay!"

and sometimes i get busy on the computer and don't really notice the time either

Although we all know RM had that woman's pizza, how did she know he had it and not another driver? Does that store only have one pizza delivery vehicle?

true enough. had not thought of that at the time.

at that time of night there are only two drivers on the road from my pizza place.

AND there is one other delivery place in town that has a similiar car topper to ours but is NOT a pizza place (delivers wings only sometime people "mistake" their toppers for ours and vice-a-versa)

and most of my customers are like you. if we quote them a 45 minute to an hour delivery time either they will happily agree or hurmmmph and change the order to carry out. I just do not get that people think they are our ONLY customer of the day and pizzas get made and deliveryed by magic (hence the name of my second story since I am a Harry Potter fan)
