  • Large Bill Rant NUMBER I do not care anymore

this happened to another driver on Thurs. night

customer orders for delivery a medium pizza and small breadsticks for a total of around $16.50. The driver arrives and the customer pulls out a $100 bill. As per security policy the driver explains the they do not have that much change on them AND we are not allowed to go and get change (either from a gas station yeah right or the piza place). the customer starts to rant at the driver saying that is all they have and they NEED the pizza.

The driver stands firm (I taught them well) and refuses the customer demands. some more ranting to the driver but to no avail. driver returns to the store with the order.

In the interim the customer calls the store and literally screams at the MOD for like 5 minutes saying things like "WELL your drivers SHOULD carry lots of change for people like me" and the like. Yeah right lady like my job is soooo safe we NEVER have to worry about getting robbed or being set up for a robbery.

this is a minor point but then she says something that I consider kinda dumb. "WELL I have 5 HUNGRY GRANDKIDS here and they need to be fed".

whoa one small slice of pizza and one breadstick apiece for a HUNGRY KID??????
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

I don't blame you or the company one bit. Carrying to much cash is never smart.

Just think I once had a job where after my shift I would have to go deposit cash in the bank for the owner. Sometimes I would be dropping 50000, no that is not a misprint, nor any extra zeroes. That was not counting credit card receipts, just the cash. Lol, sad thing is .. the majority was in ones...

Doesn't that start getting into the realm of armoured vans ? I wouldn't feel safe with that much cash.

And I do agree that it is a smart policy to keep change to a minimum. You'll get the occasional sucky customer, but at least you're not a robbery target.

I thought everyone knew that delivery drivers don't generally carry that much cash. I guess I was wrong!

When I was a delivery driver, I was told to keep no more than 20$ in ones and fives, and some change. Any more than that I was supposed to "bank" with the manager until the end of the day.

Still, depending on how many pizza's I was delivering (sometimes I'd deliver to several places on one run) I might have 50-75 bucks cash on me. Which probably still happens a lot. Which is why pizza drivers get robbed and killed every year.

My own close call with a robbery convinced me to keep the cash low.

Yeah, that's why a lot of delivery drivers carry handguns, too.

(That is assuming you even will accept the $100 bill without first checking it for counterfeit.)

Pfft. One hundred dollars could buy a week's worth of groceries that would feed those kids for a lot further than a medium pizza.

Customers like this never care about the safety of service workers. We're all just expendable peons to them.

And to Festival Worker: A store I worked at would send the deposit with two employees to the bank. One deposit I personally helped out with totalled to a quarter of a million dollars (no, this is not an exaggeration). No armored van and no insurance if said employee got robbed. But on the upside the bank was only a block or two from the store and we always drove to the bank. (Again, in an employee's car that was likely not insured if something happened while we were doing something like this)

                  That's exactly what I thought!

See, now, if she insists on paying with a $100 bill, I'd have taken it and said, "Thanks for the tip."

Now, watch them try to escalate it to the next level, while at the same time, mutating the story to the point where you denied AN ENTIRE ORPHANAGE their ONLY MEAL OF THE MONTH!!!! and now the poor kids will have to eat dirt and bugs because the heartless pizza people were too good to take what little money they had!

Oh, the damn Kid Card. Declined. Sorry, do you have a Race or Age card, or any other form of entitlement-ism to use instead?

Taking food out of children's mouths....a proud service that only the best of us are able to take on.

I was accused of taking food out of children's mouths because a woman was trying to scam the grocery store with coupons. I failed to see how her inability to read and use coupons properly (and my manager's refusal to not over-ride) had anything to do with her kids starving.

I don't understand the point of the larger bills in day to day life. I know there are certain circumstances where you might need to have a bill larger than a $20, but baring those few exceptions, why would you even get your money out of the bank in any denomination larger than a $20? Heck, the ATMs don't even give out anythign bigger. The only reason I can see for someone regularly carrying larger denominations is because it makes them feel important (and how pathetic is that?).

So there was poor old granny with nothing, nothing to eat in the whole house, just a lone $100 bill in her purse and five kids crying for a meal?

Too much trouble to cook, I guess.

This is exactly why I don't carry anything larger than a $20 bill on me, and use my debit card when need be. My husband is a delivery driver and was robbed over $40 and a pizza before so there's no way in Hell he'd accept a $100 bill.
