  • Posting to the world: 'I don't pay my bills'

You gotta love social media. I work for a utility. One of our customers posted on a media outlet's Facebok page that the company I work for 'sucks' because it disconnected her service for non-payment. Gee, can be because you owe us thousands and have a history of breaking payment arrangements and writing bad checks?

Funny how she can afford internet service and the smart phone that she posted from but she can't be bothered to pay a household bill. Go figure. I can't even afford a smart phone and I work full time.

Who in their right mind posts to a social media site (under her real name mind you) about how they don't pay their bills?

You're posting here, and you actually are asking that question?

Not that it surprises me. Not much does when it comes to stupidity on social media, anymore.

Does she say WHY she's not paying her bills? Oops, forgot those smart phones are pricey.

A woman in our condo complex doesn't want to pay the condo fees because she's a single mother. Honey, you knew about the fees when you bought the condo, shut up and spit out that money. I'm pretty sure the utilities, phone, cable companies and the bank will not accept that excuse.

I used to work for a power company. I had the lovely job of calling people who had bills owing from closed accounts, sometimes we would call people to remind them to pay or be disconnected. A coworker told us when she got off the phone with a customer that the customer told them she was past due on her cable too and that is what she was going to pay. She told us what is the point of paying your cable instead of the power when it you need power to watch the cable tv.

Then she'll probably be calling the cable company to complain after her lights are turned off b/c her cable won't work.

She owes, thousands!!! We're talking years of nonpayment, right? Cutting this EW off is a good start, when do you drag her to court over this?
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

I have to keep reminding myself, stupid people like this existed before Twitter, it was just that they didn't have a way of reminding you how stupid they were when they weren't being stupid right in front of you....

Remember how Bill Engvall always wanted to make it so stupid people would have to wear signs that said "I'm stupid" so you wouldn't waste your time dealing with them? Thanks to social media, this has finally come to pass.

And a little more FB research reveals (she and her family really need to adjust their privacy settings):

                  Tattoos
                  Bleached blonde hair
                  LOTS of make-up
                  She ain't starving

Just what she spent on the tats along probably could have paid a few bills. I have nothing against body art, but I do have a problem with adorned people crying poverty. WTF???

Oh and her daughter, the 20-year-old who has at least two little sprouts and no sign of a hubby, is posting all over FB about what a crappy company we are. All because her mommy can't get away with not paying her bills. Cry me a river, toots.

My daughter had a friend who was going thru some hard times financially. So my daughter & her husband gave friend and her husband some money. Found out they both went out and got tattoos with the money. So, guess what, no more money to them.

Thank goodness. I won't stray into fratching by saying what they are specifically, but I have three or four key 'touchstones' that I use to mentally hang those "I'm Stupid" signs on FB friends. Very handy.

That's no different than the former co-worker of mine who has five kids (or is it six? I forget.), a home filled with every state-of-the-art appliance, electrical geegaw and entertainment system, and a live-in mother-in-law who doesn't contribute any income to the household. They couldn't keep up with the mortgage and were on food stamps.

Or the current co-worker of mine who works part-time at the swamp (and we all know how crappy retail pay is), his fiance is a manager at a sub shop, they have four kids between them, and he somehow has the coin to build and maintain a racecar, and pay pit fees to go racing every week. And he's not too good at it; he never wins anything. The family's on food stamps, yet he heads out to the convenience store every day for lunch, which always includes a bottle of Mountain Dew and an energy drink. Oh, and they might be lying to the food stamp people about how big their household is, but as this co-worker says "The food stamps are in her name. I'll let her worry about that."

Or this guy, which I assure you is not a fictional character.

I have no problem with social assistance at all, but those kinds of things should go to the truly needy, not the people who just choose to spend their money on other things.

                          Yes, yes she will.

I know this for a fact. I had coworkers that took that call when I worked at Dish.

Why do you think it's called "Twitter"? It's because of all the twits using it.

I know they won't. One of my neighbors got her house foreclosed on last summer because she didn't pay her HOA dues. They're $45/month. This is the same family that drops a couple grand on big show fireworks on the 4th of July every year.

When we give people money, we have to accept that they may not use it they way we'd like them to. We lose that control as soon as the gift is given.

Having given it, though, if they continue to be irresponsible there is no reason to keep giving that person money. Tough love does wonders.

Food stamps I'll leave to Fratching.
