In Canada, they never went away. Of course, here they were baked under license by another company, so the plant never shut down.

One of the major truck stop chains in the U.S. had Hostess snacks as a "promotion of the month" (advertised in their in-house publication) in the month that the bakery was closed. Someone in Corporate must have had egg on their face over that.
