For those of you not in the US - we don't have a mandatory paid vacation policy unless it is arranged by our union (should we be so lucky to work a union shop) or by corporate policy. For many companies, even though there is technically a vacation/time off policy - vacations can be cancelled by managers at a whim. The people that work two or more part-time jobs can take a vacation, but it would be without pay, and you may not have a job when you get back. This happened to me - I requested time off (for my honeymoon) from two jobs and got approval - when I got back I discovered that the manager at one job (the one who had given me the approval) had scheduled me to work and since I didn't show up I was fired. I was young and hadn't gotten the approval in writing.
