  • Tragic End and a Rant

This has been getting national headlines, so a lot of people already know part of the story. Last week, a college student named Emily Sander disappeared. She goes to the Community College here in town. I didn't know her, but a lot of people in my church did. She had last been seen with a guy at a bar one night, and vanished. There were rumours around town that someone saw blood at a local motel, and the other day the police confirmed there was blood on the floor and bed in the room. Quite a bit of blood. We had a candlelight vigil on Tuesday night, and the college is going to hold one in her memory in a few days.

A body was found 50 miles away a couple of days ago. They had to identify it by dental records, and police announced today that it is, in fact, Emily.

Police found the suspect's car in Texas where he has family. His girlfriend is allegedly with him, who is 16 years old. By now, he's probably in Mexico.

Through all of this, it sickens me that the national media has been focusing on a porno site she secretly appeared on. She wanted to be an actress, she needed money, so she did something that only he closest friends knew about. I know a few people who have done similar things to try and get a start on their careers with things like this. But somehow, the national media found out and now they keep putting up things like "Missing Teen's Dark Secret," and "Missing Teen is Former Porn Star!" With the confirmation of her death, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we see headlines like "Porno Slut's Body Found!" The whole community is in shock right now(this kind of thing just doesn't happen around here), God only knows what her family is going through. Would a little respect be too much to ask?

Respect from the national media? Yeah when the money runs dry in titlation and selling the drama.

My condolences to her family and those hurt by this. I am sure she was a good person just trying to get by doing what she could with what she had. But no the media and the uptights are goign to proclaim that since she was a porn girl she probably did something to bring it on herself....Bah. Evil doesnt need a reason it just is.

I'm sure the tabloids would get right on that.

      No, seriously.

Ever hear that song "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley??? That pretty much describes it.

Salacious headlines seem to be a staple of our media and the lack of respect for the dead/sick/dying seems to scrape new lows each day, irrespective of which side of the pond you live.

If there is one thing I detest about the media, it's the fact that they love this sort of thing. Sadly the majority of idiots are always focused on people's darkest secrets.

My thoughts are with the family.

I am sincerely tempted to encourage myself and everyone I know to appear in porno as a form of protest to this. What asses. So what if someone did porn? Does that make her LESS DEAD for some reason?

The Media sickens me. They are only out to ruin other peoples life's. So what if she did porn? That does not make her any less of a person.

I was thinking about this last night when I saw some of the online news. It's classic 'blame-the-victim' for the hellish slaughter she doubtless endured.

Poor girl. My thoughts with her and her family/friends.

And this "blame the victim" crap is why so many rapes, sexual harrassment, and assaults go unreported.

A girl reads all this "girl was raped because she was wearing a skirt" bullshit and she'll never report a rape to the police because she won't want everyone judging her and throwing the "well you were asking for it with those stilleto heels!" card at her.

Is there not anonimaty (sp?) for sexual assaults?

Perhaps I have watched too many Lifetime movies, but once in a while, if wind is caught of a girl being raped or assaulted, etc etc, depending on the situation, there are times when you'll hear people talking about it and saying heartless things like "Well with the way she dressed, what did she expect?" and other awful things.

For instance, if it's made public on the news about the rape or assault, as much as the victim needs support and love at times like that, is when the cruel people out there tend to blame the girl's outfits or beauty or whatever else have you for the assault. Because the guy couldn't control himself. If only she were wearing a turtleneck and proper trousers, it would never have happened.

Thankfully, this does not happen very often!

I like to think that people are starting to get over that "she deserved it" mentality, but sadly I guess I am mistaken...

I read a few articles about Emily...I by far think the one Kara posted is the most respectful.

My thoughts to Emily's friends and family.

A good counter argument to that point is to look at all the Muslim women getting raped in Iraq. They're covered head to toe, so people that say it's all about a woman's appearance are full of crap.

The media doesn't give a shit about anything BUT making headlines that sell newspapers & magazines. The ONLY time they notice if they're causing any pain by the kind of reporting that they they're doing is when they look down to see what it is they're stepping on when they're aiming for that stupid ass pulitzer prize.
