  • Newspaper Awards Prize to 3rd Place Winner

In an art show sponsored by the Virginian-Pilot, the original first place winner, and the subsequently-chosen first-place winner were both denied prizes due to nudity (not prohibited in the rules) depicted in their artwork.

An editorial about the brouhaha by a Virginian-Pilot reporter.

An article regarding other entities raising funds to award the original and subsequent winners. Strangely, they decided that the second piece of art that they originally rejected was now ok to print an image of.

Here's a link to the image in question. Note: it's a generally non-revealing nude self-portrait of a 17-year-old girl. May be NSFW.

Faith is about what you do. It's about aspiring to be better and nobler and kinder than you are. It's about making sacrifices for the good of others. - Dresden

Pathetic. Spineless newspaper management doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to simply ban all nudes. But, they won't award them, either.

Retail and food service workers: you can take comfort now knowing that it's not just your own management that's spineless and arbitrary.
