A lot of people don't even have the 3K for a basic "good" system.
Hence why I said "If you have to get a new TV anyway"...though I now notice I didn't really complete the thought "you might as well get an HD TV." Because you can get one for less than $1K with full 1080p, as a 32", which is still darned big. On sale it'd be even less.

But you're right, it's not until the current "standard" connections and TVs are starting to be phased out that it'll really start to upswing. Which I'm actually grateful for, as it'll extend the life of the stuff I've got

ok, first are people really that stupid as to not realize they need better equipment to be able to have higher quality?
You're talking about the same people who buy magnets to put in their car tanks to get better gas mileage. ok? I mean, you could go to a store and buy surplus 80's tv knobs, paint them purple and sell them as "HDTV Setters" which "glued to your standard TV would triple the resolution improving image beyond commercial plasma HDTVs" and people would buy them by the truckload....

Hell, people are still buying CD Demagnetizers for the gods!

Yes, they most certainly (and depressingly) are.

If it succeeds and gets the bandwidth, then Blu-Ray as a movie medium is done for. As a storage medium though it's only outmatched by external drives.
Not so true as you'd think. People often like having packaging. Liner notes, play booklets, cover art; it's all quite popular.
