Fried spam is actually pretty tasty. It's essentially pretty much the same sort of stuff in your breakfast ham.
.... oh, and if you haven't been there lately, you really should go visit the website. It seems that they've realized that they're a pop culture joke and have taken the ball and run with it. The "What is Spam" section is particularly memorable. You must choose the "How do you eat SPAM" question for a few good laughs.
As for how long it would last, as long as the can was intact it could conceivably be good forever (which is pretty much the case for any canned food... that's the whole point of canning). As the book says, "It's like meat with a pause button."
As for the plague that is email spam, well... Did you notice that the world's first spam message has a lot of the hallmarks of the worst of today's?
