  • calling all ice hockey fans...

I know nothing of sports. I am completely sports-impaired. So could someone please explain this to me?

Is it "tradition" to throw an octopus on the ice? If so, why? Why would anyone spend $300 on a ticket for what basically amounts to a stupid practical joke? What became of the octopus? Is it hanging as a trophy in someone's living room, or did it become someone's dinner? Either way, I hope it didn't go to waste.

This whole thing has me somewhat perplexed. Maybe I just need a hobby.

It's a very specific Detroit Red Wings playoff tradition. Here's a short explanation.

I'm still amused that the title reads "ice" hockey.

To a Canadian, there is no other kind.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

What are you talking about? Hockey is a religion year round, on any surface at any time! Ice is simply the official surface. So Nyah!

Yeah, but how often do you hear "Hockey" and go "Hmm, I wonder what kind they're talking about?"
