    Plus points for pointing out that stores don't have to accept returns at all.

    Minus points for suggesting that your credit card statement is likely to help you. While some stores might be able to do something with it, where I worked, it tells them nothing.

    All that a credit card statement would tell the store is that something was purchased, not what it was. They still wouldn't know if someone is trying a bait-and-switch with an older widget.

      The only way it will "help" is if the store has receipt lookup by credit card. But even then all you need is the credit card.

      I once had a guy who figured since we had the credit card statement we should be able to find his receipt a month later. Sorry buddy. Not looking through every transaction that day for every register to see which had the same total as yours.
