My wife's grandfather was on the "decoy" fleet during that time- they tried to draw the Germans' attention much further west while the main forces landed where they did.

(He was later in the "Battle of the Buldge" - and survived).

Edit: I just pulled out "The Longest Day" - if schutzhund is canceled I'll watch it this afternoon. If not, I'll watch it tonight.

And those of us in America should remember that there were beaches besides Omaha, and many British, Canadian, Australian, and other Allied troops died that day as well. Thanks to all of them.

(I worked on a play last summer set in Canada during WWII; an eye opening experience to say the least.)

Yes, in fact, I think the Canadian military played several important roles contributing to an allied victory.

We also can't forget that Russia suffered very hard losses on their front, too. Many nations contributed (and risked) a lot to this war.
