  • more free books - downloadable text books (sci fi)

after the comment against audiobooks I decided to post this too...

The books here are all free. They can be downloaded to your computer in several formats: RTF, HTML, Microsoft reader, Palm/Psion/Window CE, Rocket Ebook

http://www.baen.com/library/ - the Baen Free Library.

The link actually takes you into the databases at http://webscription.net

Webscription is basically a store where you can buy online books - same format as the free library... but they're usually cheaper than the paper versions.

(unless you get the ARC versions for diehard fans)

the free books are available there as well.

I'd stay away from that site if I were you.... the five books for fifteeen bucks is too hard to resist...I have at least 200 unread e-books from Webscriptions (whereas my pile of unread hardcopy books is only about 30 books high )
There's no such thing as a stupid question... just stupid people.

lol @ broomjockey - i remember reading the bardic voices series by mercedes lackey & ellen guon a long time ago (imagine trying to find book 1 of the series.... all i remembered was that it was a gold cover and had "Elves in LA?" on the back cover ... took me 5 years.

i found the rest of the series here ... gobbled them all up

and if anyone ever wants to see how a real paladin should be role-played, I recommend "The Deed of Paksennarion" by Elizabeth Moon. It's a trilogy - book 1 is free though.

And if anyone here is on a mac... Yes, I've taken some of the stories i bought and converted them from RTF to TXT and then ran a command on the mac to turn them into audio books.

(i think I may have the only audiobook of Paksennarion now)

and oh... john ringo. i don't bother paying for him in the stores anymore. EVERYTHING he writes is available there online.

course you have to be careful with Ringo if you're in the military... you might end up meeting some of the characters. (yes that happened to me on my last ship... weird, yet cool as hell actually...)
