  • News from SDCC '09: Tron Legacy!

Last year, at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con, Disney showed a trailer for what was, at the time, called Tron 2 (or TR2N, as shown on-screen in the trailer.) The trailer thrilled fans of the highly underrated classic film from 1982, especially since it gave them their first glimpse of Jeff Bridges, returning to the role of Kevin Flynn.

This year's SDCC is going on right now, and Disney has made more announcements. The title has now been changed to Tron Legacy, and after spending the last year making people pull the trailer off of their websites, Disney has now FINALLY allowed it to be posted online in High Definition!

You can watch the trailer HERE, and you can check out the movie site at disney.com/tron.

I can't wait! Next year, the original cinematic "cyberpunk" franchise is BACK! Although it's not confirmed by the trailer, rumor has it that Bruce Boxleitner will also be returning to reprise his roles from the original movie. And the new light cycles look so frakkin' COOL!

Even better, it appears Daft Punk is going to be doing the soundtrack. Score!

Is that the music in the teaser? Or something Disney announced at Comic Con?

'Cuz if it's the music in the teaser, except for the logos at the end, that teaser's a year old... and if I were a betting man, I'd bet good money that they STILL haven't recorded the soundtrack yet. That step usually comes fairly late in post-production. Since this is a year-old teaser trailer, the odds are that the music in it is just a "placeholder" for the real soundtrack to come later... kinda like how the first trailer for Watchmen had that song by Smashing Pumpkins that is NOT actually on the film's final soundtrack.
