  • He made them 3 billion dollars, they say screw you.

So, apperently New Line cenemies, decided that, "Eh, Peter Jackson isn't the person we want to direct the Hobbit. We'll get someone else" http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=17619

I beleive Peter Jackson is currently producing The Lovely Bones(2007) (holy crap, the book is awesome) and Halo(2008), so maybe he has only enough time for those.

Well, there is a bit of a feud going on between Jackson and New Line about how much the movies really pulled in.

Well, there is a bit of a feud going on between Jackson and New Line about how much the movies really pulled in.
No matter the amount, there are two things neither him nor the studio can argue:

          1. They made a BUTTLOAD of money.

          2. The movies were EXCELLENT.

That's what I don't understand. What if the guy they get to do the hobbit movies isn't as good? They are willing to sacrafice the quality of the film and perhaps more revenue because they have a beef with the guy who they KNOW would do 'em right?

The movie industry is insane. Of course, this is the industry that still employs Tom Cruise, so I guess I should know this by now.
I may be free from retail, but the nightmares still linger.....

I think that the two are now currently in litigation or a precursor to it, and Jackson did not want to move forward with another project with them until the last one was resolved so they decided to move on without him.

Ah well, they will learn in the end.

Does anyone know where "The Silmarillion" (dear gord I have no idea if I spelled that correctly) falls in the timeline of Middle Earth?

Anyone else read the comic strip "Dork Tower"?

John Kovalic has had some great observations on this little struggle.

Not having read it, this is only an educated guess. I THINK it's a few millenia before the events of The Hobbit take place. If I could find my Tolkien Beastiary, I could tell you for certain - there's a timeline of events near the beginning of it.
Thanks. We have a copy of it, but it is still in storage with most of our books. I haven't read it and hubby couldn't remember.

Well, I can ask my mother. She really loves those books and actually read the dry Silmarillion more than once.

But I believe it's a reference to the time before The Hobbit as well as alittle after the trilogy.
I've lost my mind ages ago. If you find it, please hide it.
