I beleive Peter Jackson is currently producing The Lovely Bones(2007) (holy crap, the book is awesome) and Halo(2008), so maybe he has only enough time for those.

No matter the amount, there are two things neither him nor the studio can argue:

1. They made a BUTTLOAD of money.

2. The movies were EXCELLENT.

That's what I don't understand. What if the guy they get to do the hobbit movies isn't as good? They are willing to sacrafice the quality of the film and perhaps more revenue because they have a beef with the guy who they KNOW would do 'em right?

The movie industry is insane. Of course, this is the industry that still employs Tom Cruise, so I guess I should know this by now.

I think that the two are now currently in litigation or a precursor to it, and Jackson did not want to move forward with another project with them until the last one was resolved so they decided to move on without him.

Ah well, they will learn in the end.

Not having read it, this is only an educated guess. I THINK it's a few millenia before the events of The Hobbit take place. If I could find my Tolkien Beastiary, I could tell you for certain - there's a timeline of events near the beginning of it.

Well, I can ask my mother. She really loves those books and actually read the dry Silmarillion more than once.

But I believe it's a reference to the time before The Hobbit as well as alittle after the trilogy.
