Great pics - I like small cities like those. We don't have them here in south Florida.

What's the one that looks like a metal cutout of a man? That one's really cool.

That's a monument to author Thomas Wolfe who was born in and grew up in Asheville. There are a pair of footprints in the sidewalk and if you stand in them the forced perspective of the artwork lets you view Woodfin Street as it would have appeared during his lifetime. You might not have seen them because the photo was dark, but there are also little bronze models of the houses that once stood nearby attached to the frame.

That yellow Victorian house is the Thomas Wolfe Memorial, the boarding house where Wolfe grew up and which is immortalized in Look Homeward, Angel.

Beautiful pics . . .makes me wish I lived there instead of this giant metropolis called Greensboro.

I didn't notice them but I see them now that you mention it. Very cool.

Beautiful photos! I liked the gargoyles, the bridge murals and the ghost Coca-Cola ad (maybe you could send the latter to the Ghost Signs page on Lileks.com?). And those gingerbread houses...amazing!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful photos.
