Anyone in the metro Atlanta area? We're getting more snow on Friday (maybe).

I just hope that a few (million) people learned a lesson earlier this week.
How did you fare?
The Wife normally has an hour's drive home. She left work at 3:10 in the afternoon and arrived home at 4:30... Wednesday morning. It took 6 hours to get from Barrett Pkwy to RT 20 up I575. The hills on RT 20 were iced making it impassable. She hung out/napped at the Waffle House until 3:00 AM. Took another 1.5 hours to then go 17 miles.
On the plus side... Social Media at its finest.

I wish I had found out about it sooner. I could have volunteered.

I don't live in Atlanta, but I do live 5 hours north of there.
Schools closed, roads icy, people panicking...
we got maybe 2 inches.
My number one rule for driving in the snow and ice....is don't.
Took my a little longer then 10 minutes to get home that afternoon, cause I wanted to get a few things to lock myself up in the house with. got home a little after 1 (classes let out early at 12), and I sat in my living room watching the snow fall...and idiots acting like its the end of the world....no wrecks but lots of skids. It is by snark alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of the coffee bean that thoughts acquire 'tude, the lips acquire mouthiness, the glares become a warning.

I'm in NJ, but our snowstorm last week added an hour and a half to my normally half hour commute. I left work at noon and got home just before 2:00. But at least it wasn't icy. A week or so before I was halfway to work when the roads all turned to black ice. If it had been like that near my house I would have turned around and stayed home.I don't go in for ancient wisdom

under NORMAL conditions....I live 5 hours north.

Growing up in the Chicago Burbs, I only had two days when they closed the schools due to weather. Two storms that would have closed the schools happened over Christmas break.
The problem down here is that it is always warm before it starts to snow. The first .5" of snow melts on the warm roadway. Then it freezes.
On the plus side, that goom & doom snow forcast for this Friday has been removed. 41F and rain.

Quoth Greenday View PostWe got 8.5 inches from the same storm as Atlanta. Other than a delayed opening, life continued as normal. Roads were extremely clear.
Quoth csquared View PostWhen I lived in NJ (Point Pleasant), they waited until the snow stopped to start plowing/salting/sanding. Outside of that, they did pretty good.

The day we had the black ice it was raining (which started while I was driving), but the temp was a few degrees below freezing and the ground was still cold to begin with.
On a side note, when did we start naming every frickin' storm that comes along?Last edited by BookstoreEscapee; 02-02-2014, 09:46 PM.I don't go in for ancient wisdom
