This little fuzzbutt kept stealing our cat food so I grabbed its tail and caught it with a towel and its sitting in a pet carrier until I close its entrance.

Our cat went walkabout last summer and one of those kept sneaking in to eat its food. We had to keep our garage open for the car to come back in. Stupid possum kept on coming back night after night. But the paint on me is beginning to dry
And it's not what I wanted to be

Cute opossum.
We have one that comes up regularly to eat . . . usually late at night or early morning before daybreak.
The opossums are the reason we keep dry cat food out at night on our front porch. We've had them coming and going for at least 20 years now. They have to eat somewhere, just like the neighborhood kitties do.Human Resources - the adult version of "I'm telling Mom." - Agent Anthony "Tony" DiNozzo (NCIS)

So that's an American possum/opossum.
It's strange. The last time any of the Americas was connected to Australia by land was the Triassic era, yet the two places where marsupials survive are those two continental masses.
And for the possum (Australian) to be so similar to the opossum/possum (American) ...
although they diverged way back then. (Or even earlier.)
Curious.Seshat's self-help guide:
1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.
