  • 'Scuse me while I throw my computer out the window ...

I get home and I desperately, DESPERATELY, need to do some online banking ...

... aaaand my computer is stuck in some sort of "loop."

I finally shut it down for an hour, while I ate dinner (which was in itself a good idea, since I'd been hungry and very grumpy when I got home) ...

... aaaand it sorted itself out. Obviously. Since I'm posting this.

Not asking for technical help, just bitching and whining. Thank you for your patience.

Remarkable how much a reboot can cure.

      I have had reboots take 1+ hours. On WinXP, Vista, 7, 8 & 10.

One time I had like 30 minutes at home between work and school, and my computer decided to freak out on me. I was not pleased, especially because I was on my way to a computer class...

Well, it does clear out the crap as far as RAM is concerned, so...^_^ If nothing else, it lets the hardware cool off a bit, giving it a tiny spark of hope that maybe...maybe it won't have to put up with these confusing orders from these silly fleshopods, and finally grant it the blessed freedom of eternal- NOPE! Kick in the head, power on, ye bastid. BACK TO WORK!

I'll grant that memory leakage was much worse in ye olde days, but it still happens these days.

I had rebooted it twice, but I guess I turned it back on too quickly and whatever was causing the jam was still active. The hour or more in which it was totally comatose seemed to get the hex out of the system.

What's worrisome is that it seems to have happened again today ... although this time, when I rebooted it (without the lengthy wait), it seemed to be all right.

Both days I've left streaming stuff running for background noise (as if the cats care); I think tomorrow I'll just let the computer to go sleep, and see if that makes any difference.

I find that a proper shut down works best. If anything, I've had far more troubles with computers that go to Sleep or Hibernate at all than those I simply shut down.

Sarcasm dear, sarcasm. I’m well aware that dealing with civilians in any capacity will skin your faith in humanity alive, then pickle anything that remains so as to watch it shrivel up into an immortal husk thus reminding you of how dead inside you now are.

My laptop is actually the opposite. If I shut it down, it gives me issues with the touchpad freezing, it doesn't like to connect to my home wi-fi, and Chrome will try to use a proxy server which will either deny me access to the internet or slow it waaaaaay down. They're all very fixable problems and quickly resolved, but I don't like dealing with them if I don't have to, so I use Hibernate instead. Of course, I still do a reboot once in a while, especially for updates, I just don't shut it down every time.
