For many years now, I've been dealing with a particular branch of one of those payday loan companies. We've gotten along well; I never borrow the extravagant amounts they offer me, I repaid the loan in a timely fashion, yay both of us.
Suddenly something shifted.
My last loan had been paid out. I went to renew it and got told "Sorry, we have no confirmation your payment went through. You'll have to bring us some proof." This was a week after the automatic payment went through.
I was annoyed but went home and gave it another week before going back.
Same thing: "No proof your payment went through; please bring us written proof that your payment went through."
After TWO WEEKS you still can't confirm the payment went through??
I went to a competitor. Again I'm using automatic payments and it seems to be going fine; we'll see how it goes after the last payment goes through (although I don't expect to be needing to renew the loan at that point).
So today I get a call from Company #1: "Oh hai, we haven't seen you back in a while, blah blah blah."
I explained the situation, politely but coldly, and told her I'd gone with a competitor.
Her: "Oh, that's the bank; sometimes they don't tell us a payment has gone through for 7 to 10 business days."
Bullshit. I am no cheerleader for Big Banks but I do NOT believe that. I also pointed out I had waited two weeks -- that's FOURTEEN days -- and they still couldn't confirm my payment had gone through.
"Oh yes, well, blah blah blah." She went on to hurriedly tell me if I ever needed another loan or secure card or [other products] they'd be happy to see me back.
I told her I'd keep all that in mind, in a tone of voice that I hope conveyed the fact I won't be back there, ever.
