I am toying with the idea of baking some mini cupcake things for a 3rd anniversary at work. The surface of each will be about a square inch, if that.

I'm thinking of icing a different way of saying '3' on each one. So I need ideas!

    I've got:

    3
    iii
    a triangle
three dots in a triangular pattern
three dots straight up like a dice
most of the pi symbol (get it - almost pi, missing the .145? hahaha)

What else? Especially geeky things would be best, this is an IT department. The more ideas the better as there'll probably be 30 or more little cakes.

Remember it's only a square inch, so eg "1+2" probably wouldn't fit.

Maybe look up some ancient ways of writing the number. Sumerian, Egyptian, Greek, Hebrew, and so forth.

What's binary for 3? Would that fit? What about Hex?

Even on a square inch, you might be able to fit 1+2, depending on how small you're able to write in frosting.

Binary. 101. Hex would be 3 still. Hex is short for hexadecimal. It's a base 16 numbering method. That means it goes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F,10 (apologies if you knew)

Sorry Broom, but binary is wrong there. In binary, 3 is written "11". "101" is 5.

Another way of writing 3? √9

        3ii would work, too.

That's what I can think of.

          3 in binary = 11. trinary = 10. Sorry Broom 101 = 5

            >.<

            You know, I knew that.

Not sure why I forgot it at that moment.

            Ah well.

You could also get really creative and do three different colours of icing, see if anyone gets that it's still a representation of three.

Bugger. I knew that, too. See, this is what I get for working in words all the time. I lose my geek ability to talk in binary.

Heheh. Great ideas, keep 'em coming.

                What is 3ii?

three dots in a triangular pattern
If the dots were red, I think I might well throw myself out of the way (I'll always associate 3 red dots in a triangle witht he Plasma Caster of the Predator.)

                    Well, i = √-1, so ii = i*i = (√-1)squared = -1

Which means that 3ii is wrong. It needs to be -3ii (Might now be too hard).

                    -3ii = -3*i*i = 3 * (√-1)squared = -3 * -1 = 3.
