  • It's Research Time again, y'all!

This time I'm looking for information on must-have items for training dogs. (No, I'm not getting a dog anytime soon - this is for one of my writing 'claims'. PM me if you want to know more) What are some highly-recommended items for dog-training, and how would you rate them in effectiveness?

    Thanks in advance!

What is the dog being trained for?

If you're talking about general obedience training, all you need is your leash and the ability to dish out treats, like a bumbag or something.

I have a difficult dog and have been to several trainers, and none of them have recommended or sold any equipment, bar one of them recommended a specificly configured leash.

A cage is a highly recommended item for house training your new puppy, but this is puppy training, not really 'dog training'.

A soda can filled with coins and taped shut. Highly, highly effective in making a dog stop doing something you don't want it to do.
