  • OMG Fishy surprise!

    I've recently started getting into fish, after being strictly a cat person most of my life, so I'm not very successful with it yet, or so I thought. XD;; Right now I've got four neon tetras, two danios, two glofish danios, three mollies (gold, white, and black), a gold tetra, a snail, and a bunch of little ghost shrimp. I've been checking the tank to make sure everyone's surviving fairly well and that I haven't lost anyone. I didn't count on finding more fish than I started with.

    That's right, apparently there are babies!

    I was looking through the tank doing a head count, and I was looking for the snail when I spotted this tiny little fish by the filter. He's only a few millimeters long, if that, and so cute! I haven't seen any others yet, and I dunno how long he's been in the tank, but I'm hoping he thrives.

    Does anyone have some suggestions on what to do for the little guy?

    I have no suggestions, but want to comment that when I read the first part of your opening sentence I thought you may have been referring to fish in your diet. Then I saw the word "cat" and my brain did a double-take. hee hee!

      Well, that's kind of ironic...

      I don't know anything about fish (when I was a kid we never managed to get a goldfish to last more than a week, so we gave up on that and my brother got a hamster) but can you get pics of the baby?

      You should probably start by going to the pet store and asking them.

        If I can find the baby again. XD; He's moved from behind the filter. So if I manage to find him again, I'll try to get pictures.

            I don't even know which one the mother is, and I didn't expect babies to happen. So I don't have anywhere to isolate them. ^^;;

              When my mom's fish had babies (mostly the guppies), she would isolate them with a small net that would hook to the edge of the tank. Check your local pet store, you can probably get one for cheap.
