  • Update on my Condition

So, as some of you may know, I have a bad back, now you'll know the full details, as I learned them today and where it all started

When I was 6 months old, it was discovered that one leg was longer than the other, for some reason or another, this never got treated and eventually ended up being forgotten, though about a week before My appointment today, my mother was reminded of it (as well as me previously believing it due to my pants are sometimes shorter on one leg than the other)

Anyway, cut to today, went to see the neuro surgeon for the results of my bone scan, X-Ray and MRI, anyway, she mentions that to the doctor, he checks it out and lo and behold, my left leg is shorter than my right leg by half an inch, which, over the 23 years of my life is probably responsible for the following things:

My lower spine is curved by 7 degrees, and the spine in my chest region is bent by 8 degrees (3 and 2 degrees respectively off able to be classify as scoliosis, which suck as it waters down the fact that my spine is bent sideways in degrees that it wasn't meant to be)

I have a defective part of my tailbone, one of the natural buttresses.

Because of my legs, my hips are always at an angle, doing no good i expect.

II have arthritis in my hips (to which I promptly asked hi mif he could give me arthleftis to even things out)

and finally, I have on my lower spine, what appears to be somethign which he would classify as a form of Spina Bifida, although a rather mild thing)

I now have the following options, which I'll probably work my way through getting done:

A Special sole for my shoe to even my leg out (if that works and helps then the next might be taken)

Having my leg lengthened by having it broken and reset with screws, plates and pins.

We'd have to see how my hip looks like to do anything for that.

    and the last 2

Having part of my (I'm presuming lower) spine fused and if that and everything else we've tried doesn't work, end up on pain management where i'll probably end up on very strong painkillers for the rest of my life.

I managed to joke about it to my mum today though, I got some new jeans and they were a bit too long, so my mum said she'd get an inch or two taken off, immediately, I said "Which leg"

But on the plus side, I got to look at my X-Rays, Bone Scan and MRI, which was really cool, I wonder if they'd copy them onto a CD for me

    So just remember folks:

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
    Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

    If life seems jolly rotten
    There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
    Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

    For life is quite absurd
    And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

    Life's a piece of shit
    When you look at it
    Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
    You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

I have pretty much the same condition (except the spina bifida), although I think the difference between legs is less than yours. I do notice putting a heel pad in my left shoe helps. Chiropractor was able to straighten my spine and hips out quite a bit. He said, "Good news, I got your hips straightened out, but bad news, 1 leg is still shorter."

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the solutions may be simpler than previously thought. At least you know someone here can sympathize with almost daily pain.

you know...that might explain my back problems....well besides throwing it out...

you think 1/2 inch leg difference is bad? try a good inch and half. My chiropractor was going a REALLY good job, got my hips starting to straighten out, and my legs just about the same length again with nothing more invasive then a REALLY HOT doctor feeling me up...I mean workig on my back >.>
It is by snark alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of the coffee bean that thoughts acquire 'tude, the lips acquire mouthiness, the glares become a warning.

Yea Chiroprator helped me out a lot too but I'm not as bad as you folks, only a quarter inch different. So I would defintly say go for chiroprator as well as the special shoes before surgery.

As for the Spina Bifida isn't that just a fancy name for bone spur of the spine?

Yeah, I'll be trying pretty much everything else before going for the surgery. I did try a chiroprator ages ago and it did work, for a while at least, but now i know about it i will be able to get it treated.

Seeing a hip specialist and a Pedstrist and after that will just have to see how things go.

I just wanted to say that referring to your tailbone as a "buttress" made me lol.

Hope things work out for you, though.

It's only part of the tailbone that acts as a buttress that's defective, but yeah it made me laugh too.

So it's alright for you you've got a working buttress in your butt, I have a defective buttress in my butt
