My roomie in college had something like this happen to her.. quite often.
Her folks (more lik her mom because her dad didn't have the credit) refused to co-sign a loan for school, so Roomie had to work tthrough college and take it out on her credit with a horible interest rate. She moves to school and meantime, her mom has access to her savings.
Mom favors her older daughter (Roomie's Sis) and would periodically take out money from Roomi'es accnt to give to OD because said girl was 'desolate' and 'couldn't find a job'. OD also was given R's car to drive while R was off in school -- and no, R did not know about this either and yes the car was in heer name.
OD screwed up the car's tranny and calls R to tell her she needs the car and R needs to fix it. R says 'no, you took my car without my knowledge and messed it up, you pay for it." meanwhile, stashing her cash into her savings so she could take a break from work while going to school.
So as she's showing me around town one day to find cheap stores and whatnot, she stops to buy food and her card is declined. R says it is odd as she should have 3k in the bank, but figures the magnet isn't working or something.I spot her money, all is fine until she decides later on that day to go ahead and pay me back.
We stop at her bank, she checks the atm. Atm says she's in the negative. Confused, we go into the teller, teller says she's overdrawn $500 bucks. She says "no, my last transaction was two weeks ago and it was for $30 and I had about $3k in there at that time."
A little digging later we find out R's mom withdrew all the money and then some two days prior to FIX the tranny in R's car so OD could drive it. Livid R asks why OD didn't pay for the transmission change or if she couldn't afford it, why didn't she (her mom) because she was the one who had given her sister the car to drive.
Her mom says 'Well, honey, it is only natural you pay for it because it is YOUR car.'
Then M turns around feeds R some other Xtian thing about how she should be a good samaritan because OD is in a crappy place in life, blah blah blah.
R was livid and could only cry in frustration. Then I come to find out it was not the first time that had happened and she had only forgiven her mom for the past because her Mom had paid her back... like six months later.
....
Needless to say she got her own account after that, but still. I can't..even.. omg. I just.. I was so angry for her.
PS: I do not want to start a religious debate, I only mentioned the Samaritan thing to explain the reasoning behind why R had to pay for OD's mistakes quite often. It was 'forced upon charity'.
