  • Yay, I've escaped the hospital

I finally had my surgey for my dermoid cyst and I'm now home after three days (which felt more like three weeks). I'm enjoying the fact that I can now enjoy my wonderful internet and my even more wonderful hubby when he gets home.

I'm trying to stay awake more and do a few little things today but I don't really have the energy yet but I guess major surgey will do that to you.

      Hope the recup. goes well.

How long before you were diagnosed? It took them more than 3 years (warning TMI alert) of having my period Every. Single. Day. before they finally diagnosed me correctly! I told my Dr. that I would have a hystorectomy if they didn't figure out what was wrong. The cysts weren't easily found for some reason

By the time I had my surgery, I had 2 dermoids - one the size of a lemon, the other the size of an orange removed.

BTW - I must strongly caution against reading Gravekeeper posts until your feeling better. I made the mistake of watching Ab Fab during my recovery and almost killed myself with the pain of laughing

Best wishes and lots of good tv and books while your laid up. Isn't the bruising awesome, though?
No... Just No! And I mean it this time!

I didn't know I had mine until they were in doing some other surgery (my periods are irregular as hell) so it was a bit of a surprise really. But it's taken 6 months to get to the surgery.

Feeling very bruised inside and as weak as a kitten! My sister has better bruising then me and she only had some Keyhole done to check her out because a scan showed she may have had one but she didn't.

I did think about watching Bill Bailey for about a minute and then realised I'd be screaming with pain more than laughter.

        Yay 6 weeks off work!

Grats on the escape =) Hopefully hubby is pampering you suitably when he is home =) and *don't* try lifting anything for a couple of weeks!

I am getting keyhole surgery using a DaVinci at Yale in August - a panhystouvrectomy, and he is going to check my digestive tract and appendix while he is in there. I have another mystery lump that started out at 4 cm and instead of just biopsying it, I asked if I could get neutered to avoid the monthly plague and stop taking supressive meds [endometriosis, PCOS and hence periods from hell] and they agreed [well they agreed that i already had my tubes tied, and at 48 it is extremely unlikely that I will possibly want to have a go at reproducing normally]

Let me know how it goes, I haven't had such major abdominal cutting since the early 90s ...

My surgery was on St. Paddy's day. I put a removable tat of a four-leaf clover where there were going in.

The only unfortunate part of it all was that my recup was spent watching the invasion of Iraq. When I woke from surgery - the first question I asked was "Did they invade Iraq?"

They did a few days later and then 3 weeks of nothing else. Fortunately I have an extensive brit com library, but still - no news but the Iraq and Bushisms. I was looking forward to going back to work.

I asked for liposuction while they were in pretty well the same area, but couldn't get it

Percs are your friends for the next while, but drink lots of water, 'cause you definitely don't want to be constipated anytime soon (I know - TMI, but yeah, you don't want to be straining those muscles for a while).

The last time I had surgery they actually told me to get colace to take with my other meds with the intent of preventing any straining of those muscles. It did help.

Whatever you do, just don't overdo it! I had my gall bladder removed in January. It was a fairly simple surgery, comparatively, I was out of the hospital the same night. And they said my recovery should be around 5-7 days. Well, more like, COULD be around 5-7 days. I went back to work after 5 days and it was hell! I could only work 4 hours, and that was at a desk job, not much walking around...and the walking I did...like getting up to walk 3 steps across the room to the printer to get a print-out...were horrible. I was so exhausted by the end of those 4 hours I went home and slept for about 6 hours and called in the next day 'cuz I didn't think I could handle it again.

I was much better the following week, thankfully. Just take your time and let your hubby and whoever else is with you pamper you and take care of you. And hopefully in a few weeks, you'll be feeling much better than you did before the surgery! (I sure did!)
