  • What I did instead of sleeping

(With apologies to Simon & Garfunkel)

    Hello, Insomnia, my old friend.
I see you've come to me again,
Though I've said I need my dreams at night.
Maybe I should the count sheep in sight.
So that my eyes'll close and I can rest my weary brain.
    Fatigue remains.
With the sounds of fan blades.

In darkness I roll out of bed
Trying to clear my weary head.
Bathed in the glow from my monitor
My cat's asleep but I hear his purr.
The hours go by, as I try to exhaust myself.
    Ma'e something else.
Within the sounds of fan blades.

My glass with milk I fill.
A little drink will help, I feel.
The coldness grows inside of me
    I hope for some serenity.
Though I wonder if I'll succeed given I have failed before.
    Once more.
Within the sounds of fan blades.

"God," I said, "Oh help me, please.
I need your guidance for release.
I can't seem to do this on my own
As my failures have clearly shown.
Though I've lain here for hours I remain awake.
    Still won't sate.
Among the sounds of fan blades."

    Morning light is peeking inside.
    My sleeplessness it cannot hide.
    My heavy eyes finally close,
As I am granted my repose.
But it won't last, as I feel my cat's protests.
    Against my chest.
And I sigh in the sounds of fan blades.
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

I recommend Tylenol PM. Or, failing that, Simply Sleep which is Tylenol PM without the painkiller.

Seems to work alright for me.

Simply Sleep is really just Benadryl. I take a single tablet if I'm having trouble sleeping.

I try to stay away from taking any sort of drugs to sleep. It doesn't make an appreciable difference as I still am tired the next day.

I don't know if you drink alcohol or not. I suggest a glass of wine. Red wine preferably, my Dr. says it has excellent health benefits.

One good thing is you came up with an awesome version of that song.
Take this job and shove it. I ain't workin here no more.

Try melatonin--it puts me right out. I had isomnia since my teens and this is the first remedy that actually worked.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Just remember to look for the vegetarian version, unless you like cow brains.
              I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.
