  • Looking for a good cheesecake recipe!

I got a springform pan from my mother in law for Christmas, so I am looking for a good, basic, no frills cheesecake recipe. I don't want a flavored cheesecake, just a standard NY-style cheesecake. Any suggestions?

Okay, I'll take flavored cheesecake recipes too. I just want to start with a basic non-flavored recipe.

      All cheesecake is good cheesecake.

This one has always received raves when I've made it:

        Angel Cheesecake

        1 c graham wafer crumbs
        2 tbsp sugar
        2 tbsp melted butter

Mix together and press into bottom of pan.

        1/2 c sugar
        1 tbsp lemon juice
        1 tsp vanilla
        1/4 tsp salt
        2x8 oz cream cheese
5 eggs-separated into yolks and whites (important)
        2 c sour cream

Beat sugar, lemon juice, vanilla and salt together into cream cheese.
Blend in yolks and sour cream.
Beat egg whites to soft peaks. Fold into cheese mixture.
        Pour into pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1-1/4 hours until done.
        Cool 10 minutes in pan.

Serve with topping of your choice.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

This recipe comes from one of my mom's co-workers. She used to run a diner and would sell slices and whole cheesecakes.

          Crust
          1 cup flour
          1/4 tsp sugar
          1 egg yolk
          1/2 tsp vanilla
          1 tbs lemon zest
          1 stick butter

          Cake Mix
          5 (8oz) packages cream cheese
          1 1/4 cup sugar
          1/4 tsp salt
          5 eggs
          2 egg yolks
          1/2 cup sour cream
          1 tbs vanilla

Preheat to 375*F. Combine crust ingredients and pour into bottom of a springform pan. Bake for 7 minutes.
Combine cake ingredients. Take out crust. Turn oven up to 450*F. Pour cake mix on top of crust. Return to oven and bake for 10 minutes.
Turn oven down to 200*F and bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

You might need to put a glass dish filled with water on the rack under the cheesecake pan to prevent the top of the cheesecake from cracking.

Wow, what great recipes! I got another recipe from a friend of mine that I have in the oven right now, but I definitely want to try all the ones you guys posted sometime. I can't believe that I didn't think to see if Alton Brown had a recipe, my husband and I watch Good Eats all the time.

My mom somehow got the recipe for Lindy's (New York) cheesecake. It's dense and rich. I will post it if you want. (long recipe, so I don't wanna post from my phone unless you really want it.) Mom says it's expensive to make, at least where she lives. So, yeah, that's the other thing.
