I've been looking for some paper in long rolls (at least 6 feet long) that has black on one side and some other color on the other. The reason for this is that I'm trying to recreate rollfilm backing paper. I have cameras that take 122 film, which is about 90mm wide, more or less. Since Kodak stopped making it maybe 35 years ago, the only way to get this size is to cut it down from something wider, so I got a roll of 105mm microfiche film (which is still available) and slit it lengthwise in the darkroom. This works fine, but you still need the backing paper to put it into the camera. I have a couple of papers that came from expired rolls of film from eBay; if you're careful you can reuse them a few times before they get too crinkled or ripped, but eventually they do wear out.
The real solution is to get what's called Exeter paper, which is glossy black on one side and flat black on the other, but the only company that sells this is charging $3.00 a foot for 26" width, minimum order 25 feet. That's enough for probably 28 rolls of film if I've done the math right, but that's still nearly 3 bucks per roll of film for just the paper, which is more than the film itself cost me.
Someone mentioned on photo.net that there's poster paper available that has one side black, and colors (red, in his case) on the other side, but he omitted one important datum, viz. where the hell he got it, and I can't seem to get hold of the guy.
So: There are a lot of people on this board who work in craft stores, and others who work in places that sell paper; have any of you encountered such paper before?
Thanks in advance.
