I purchased a Maxtor 60GB USB drive years ago (2004). It started to go last year so I bought a replacement but still used it for file transfers.
Well, it officially died yesterday so I opened it up for the 2.5" IDE to USB conversion part and I noticed something funny.
Inside the Maxtor USB drive was a Seagate drive.
Now, I know Seagate owns Maxtor but the acquisition happened in late 2005. This drive was purchased over a year before that.
