  • does anyone know Hungarian?

my professor told me not to call him sir because he is Hungarian and sir is the Hungarian word for pubic hair.

Is this true, because if so I find that really funny.

According to an online translation program, "pubic hair" translates to "Szeméremcsont szőr"

I have friends who speak Ukranian, Russian, Latvian, Japanese (classic and modern), Korean, French, and German....but no Hungarian. Sorry. :/

Online translators are notoriously awful and may not pick up on slang.

Well, it seems "szőr" sounds pretty close to "sir" and means "body hair".

So, maybe it is slang for pubic hair.

                OT:

                Do you know German?

I know a little German, and he's sitting right over there.

Just by the subject I knew this would turn into a Monty Python fest (and I don't know Hungarian but online translators don't go into slang.)

I'm going to have to ask my father-in-law. He's Hungarian, but moved to US as a child so while he knows some he doesn't know a lot. I'll let you know if I find out anything.

I'll go with my usual response. Try phrasebase.com. They have language exchange, and how to say different phrases in most languages (both options, however, depend on how many and how diligent the speakers of said language(s) are.
