I can only watch NCIS by reminding myself that they compress details for the sake of story, and that they compress how many people are involved for the sake of keeping the show a watchable one.

I was dating a chemistry major, and I told him that my favorite show is NCIS. Which sparked a 15 minute rant about how Abby was such a horrible character and that everything that happened in the forensics lab was utter crap and the whole show is just so fake and blah blah blah. I mean, it's a show. It's fiction. Get over it. And, PS, Pauley Perrette studied forensic science for a while and David McCallum has spoken at conferences for medical examiners/coroners. It's not all crap.
