Normally when I'm in a store I tune out the music - it's normally modern pop, rap, r&b, basically stuff I don't listen to (except one store that doesn't mind playing classic rock).
Sometimes a riff or a tune will catch me as I notice it and no one ever believe me when I tell them it's a cover or sampled from a classic rock song. Of course, it's normally an abomination of the original song.
Today was no different. I start to hear that short (staccado for you musical geeks) 70's style organ and bass guitar. I stop and point my ear to the speakers in the ceiling as I get odd looks from the staff (Me, in my mid 30's I'm the oldest in the store by at least 10 years). I listen intently knowing I've heard this simple chord progression. Then, the bass line kicks in. There's no doubt in my mind - it's clearly Peter Cetera's style. As much as I don't like his apparent attitude, he is a great bass player, and quite a unique one with his styling. Soon the "horns" part comes in (but it's not horns, it's some synthesized / computer crap).
This artist had stolen Chicago's song, Listen.

I didn't catch much of the lyrics (my stomach was turning at what it was turned into) but it was a female singer.
Well, at least some of the good classics are getting some airplay (kinda).
