My husband was on travel for work, and on his flight home, he accidentally left his Nintendo DS on the plane! 
He called the airport as soon as he realized he was missing it (shortly after he got home, so it hadn't been too long at least) but got no answer at the airport, so he called the airlines and they were able to file a report on it and will look for it and call him back if they find it. Fingers crossed that it comes back in one piece...
