  • Question

I sent my CV for a job at the end of last month. I received an email saying that the person in charge of such matters would not be in the office until the 5th of this month.

There's been no other answer since then. Is it too soon for me to send an email to the company to ask about my status? I haven't had an interview or anything like it yet, just that email.

And what would you recommend I write in the email?

I would wait until Wednesday of this week before emailing, and i would put something along the lines of:

    HR Person's name,
I sent in a CV on 7/28 Re: Job X; Was informed you were out of the office until 08/05/10, and hope that you've had a chance to get caught back up; I was wondering if you have had a chance to review my information, and if I am being considered as a candidate for interview. Thank you for your time, Erieann

Basically you want to keep it short, to the point, but acknowledge the information you have been provided so that you don't sound like
"where have you been, why haven't i heard anything?"
I am well versed in the "gentle" art of verbal self-defense

Once is an accident; Twice is coincidence; Thrice is a pattern.
