I dropped by my old store today. Haven't been employed in about 3 weeks, but I never got around to cleaning out my locker.
Walked in, talked to one of the front end supes and asked him to page the shift mgr so I could get an escort back there. He told me he'd walk me back there himself.
Got it cleaned out (obviously leaving company issued property behind) and removed my lock. No big deal there, FES and I shot the shit for a few minutes while I was removing everything. I now have a ton more pens, I got to keep my custom made nametag, etc.
On my way out though... holy shit! It was like a huge family reunion. Everyone I saw ran up to me to say hi, a few gave hugs. The icing on the cake was when I walked past one cashier, said hi, she ran out from behind the register and jumped on me/in my arms to give me a hug (she's married, I'm gay, we both know this), nearly knocking me over.
I knew I had a few friends there, but considered most of my coworkers to be just that, coworkers. I actually shed a few tears when I left, I had no idea that people there actually gave 2 shits about me. And because of the way I left, I AM eligible for rehire, once the new store opens in the next city I'm going to try and get back on (I know most of the management that's been hired for the new store anyway, I know just about every dept and store mgr in the metro area and I'm on good terms with all of them).
Very heartwarming for me.
