  • YAY! Quilty goodness!

So okay, you guys know I quilt. Well last year I started entering some quilting competitions, you know, just to see how I do.

So I entered a couple of quilts in the State Fair last year. It's a huge statewide competition. I was thrilled to place 3rd in one division and 11th in another.

Of course my family doesn't care. I'm not the kind of person to rub it in people's faces or anything, it was more of a "Hey I don't suck at quilting!" kinda thing.

So anyways I entered 5 quilts this year. Had the free time today to head down to the fairgrounds and see how I did.

2 quilts placed 9th, 2 placed 5th and one placed 3rd. Not bad for a huge event, and I can still call myself "Award winning" quilter.

Family is still jealous/doesn't care/whatever, so I'd thought I'd share my happy with you guys.

Aw, I looooove homemade quilts! If you don't sell them, then you should seriously consider it. The last time I was in a quilt shop most of them were fetching around $800-900. All of the older women in my family quilted...I kinda wish I had learned how to, especially now that they've all passed away. They also used leftover scraps for awesome rag rugs.

      Yes, pics, please!!

I will have to take pics when I get them back next monday.

AdminAssistant, I do sell them. Not for that much though, too many people whine and haggle about me charging $80-120 for a twin size. I'm hoping the haggling will die down a bit with the *oh my gosh pile o ribbons*.

I do have an Etsy site up, not a whole lot listed at the moment.

I have a big craft show coming up and my bedroom is being used to store 60+ quilts.

Congratulations. I wish I could do stuff like that. Most of my attempts at artsy craftsy stuff end up looking like a five year old did them. Heck a five year old would do a better job than I do.

Seriously though..in a post apocalyptic world, we're going to need people who know how to sew and quilt. Just a thought... Lol.

Gorgeous!!! I have always been in awe of people who can quilt and sew.

I'm hoping that my fiance's grandmother will be ok with making us a quilt for our wedding (I haven't asked her yet ). The reason I want one is because she's an award winning quilter (she was actually asked to stop entering her quilts so that other people would have a chance to win) and she's in her 80s now. I want to be able to show my children her work and tell them that their great-grandma made it.

And $120 for a hand-made twin quilt? Totally an acceptable price. You get what you pay for and IMO handmade stuff is worth it because of the craftsmanship.

Ask sooner rather than later. It takes a while, and it's a smaller request if you give enough time to work. (My MIL made a quilt for us, but that was by previous arrangement with Jackdaw, both he and his sister picked out fabric ages ago for when they left home, I requested an afghan from my mom, which she did. The spice rack, however, still hasn't arrived. And he was willing to make a table, so I'm wondering if he was offended at being asked for something small).
