  • Kids do the darndest things

My daughter is nine months old. It's really getting interesting to watch how her little personality is asserting itself. I've always thought babies were cute and all, but never really interacted with them beyond occasionally holding the babies of family or friends. I knew there was a lot I didn't know about babies, but it's just amazing what raising Lila so far has taught me.

So, recently, Lila has started to notice cellphones, remote controls, and other such small devices. She has also started to take an interest in reaching for the keyboard or mouse since I spend so much time on the computer between school work, playing games, and surfing the net. She is particularly fascinated with the cellphones and remote controls. She actually gets mad if you are using them, and won't let her have them when she reaches for them.

The other day, I had Lila sitting on a blanket on the floor. I was chilling in front of the TV after classes, but not really watching it. Lila wanted the remote for the cable box, so I let her play with it. I just switched it to one of the auxiliary modes thinking she would be unlikely to change channels, volume, or anything on me.

At one point, I went to the kitchen to get a drink. My wife was cooking supper and talking to her mother on the phone, so I joined the conversation while I fixed my drink. Lila was content with the remote, so I didn't worry about her fussing because I stepped out of the room. Lila sometimes gets fussy if we so much as step out of sight for a moment.

I returned to the living room a few moments later to find the channel had been changed. Should have expected that. Then, I realized what channel she was on, and about died laughing -- adult pay-per-view. Of all channels she could have randomly chosen, she ends up on adult pay-per-view. Of course, there was no actual content because you have to go through a series of options to watch pay-per-view channels, but I still died laughing. At nine months old, my daughter is already becoming a shameless little hussy, as my mother would say. Everyone I've shared this story with so far has gotten a big laugh out of it.

I love finally being able to tell funny stories about my daughter since everyone I know who has kids is always telling funny stories about their kids.

Nice...you're going to have to watch her when she gets older, or you'll be one of those people calling the cable company going "But I didn't order 6 porn movies! I was out of town!" "...did you have any teenage children home?"

My nephew's developing his personality, too, and it's very cute. Even if he does seem to have a tendency to stare at the girls and fondle people. He's only a year and a half, but he's turning into a PLAYA apparently.

There was also this adorable scene the other day...he's learning to walk by himself. We have a German Shepherd. When the baby came over, dog went nuts and kept licking him. Unfortunately, baby face was right on the level of doggy, so he kept getting licked. So he learned to say "Doggie" and then he started going, "No, no, no, no!" So cute.

I never used to be interested in little ones, but things change. I was holding my friend's almost-2-yr-old last week and she had a bag of Goldfish. My mouth is always open anyway, so she decided to stuff a whole fistful of the crackers in my mouth at once.

OOH! I love kid stories..I have one about my niece, her name is Certayn and she is 3 1/2...Certayn: "mommy you are stupid", Sis: Certie where did you learn a word like that?" Certayn: "the puppies told me"! I laughed when I heard about that! Most likely her older sisters taught her!! She was a later baby and her older sisters are 22. 18 and 16, and the 18 year old is a scamp and loves to teach her baby sister naughty things..like how to flip people off! Kids, gotta love them!

That must be why my 1 1/2 year old nephew said "fuck" and said "why a whore" It was hilarious--he pointed at something [still don't know what], said "why a whore" and then giggled.

I walked in on Rugz teaching our girls to say "Asssss-hoooole" ala 'Meet the Fockers'...

BG:Our dogs have decided that chewing the hose fitting will release more water. I haven't bought a new fitting yet, because I keep forgetting. So that I don't waste the water, I've put a large plastic box under the leak while I'm watering the garden. /BG

So I was watering my vegies the other day, when I hear giggling and splashing. There's Jazzy, butt-nekkid, having a swim in the plastic box. Rugz walks outside, holding her neatly folded clothes - "Have you seen Jaz... Oh, having fun there?" Jazzy *huge grin* "Yup, this is my outdoor bath and it's soooo nice and COLD!" *splashes water at the dogs* "No! You may not share my bath!" *splosh*

Bubbles (22 months) is running around, waving her right fist and shouting "AHOY!" whenever she sees someone, and ordering our weimaraners around - "Sit! Lay down!" *throws crusts and belly laughs*
Don't tempt pixies, it never ends well.

Yesterday when hubby and I were walking out to our car, we saw this family getting a television taken to their car by an employee on one of those carts. There was this adorable little girl leading the guy with the cart out, she turned and waved to him, and he smiled and followed her, and then she gave him a big hug before she got in the car.

It's cute, but heartbreaking, that two of the phrases that my 3 y/o son knows now are "I love you, Daddy!" and "I miss you, Daddy!"... and he says them to the computer because his Daddy is deployed so damned often.

He also climbs onto my lap when I'm on the computer and says "Mommy! You need to call my Daddy now."

I have learned not to wear tank tops around my niece or nephew, my niece started pulling them down and flashing everyone for me when she was one and has now taught her brother the same trick. She also grabbed onto and broke a necklace I was wearing once during a temper tantrum.
