  • Nutcracker Season

So, the Nutcracker went off without too many hitches yesterday, and we got a little coverage in the local paper.

That's my daughter on the right side of the photo in the peach dress. Sadly, there are no photos of the second act, so I cannot display my turn as the Chinese dragon.

It's small on my screen, but I can see her. How cool! I had no idea we had a dancer on the board. I danced in college and miss it.

Cool! How old is your daughter?

        Gah! Flashbacks! Nooooooo!

*collects self* Sorry. I danced (Second Act) Nutcracker for more years than I really want to count (10). I enjoyed it. Really. But I don't miss the time committment. And I'm still bitter about never making Dewdrop. So glad your daughter got to do it. Oh, and I hope you had fun being the dragon. Sugar Plum Fairy, Dragon and Polichinelle were the only roles I never danced.

In answer to comments and questions:

I am not a dancer. I'm an overweight college teacher, but I do run around on stage in a long dragon costume a couple of times a year.

My daughter in the photo is 12. She's been dancing since she was about 3, and dancing very seriously since she was about 6. She's set to go on pointe in a couple of months, I think.

And yes, the time commitment is extreme. I'm not sad the show is over.

Actually, it's a great show. We do the show with a live full orchestra, and get guest dancers from the Joffrey in Chicago, which is pretty cool.
