  • gamer christmas ideas...

So this is my third annual gamers christmas, tradtionally held the weekend before christmas, where my friends and I get together, eat food, exchange gifts then play games all night!

This year I'm drawing a complete blank on the menu and am looking for ideas. Only 2 dietary restrictions is no mushrooms what so ever, and no gluten/low gluten.
It is by snark alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of the coffee bean that thoughts acquire 'tude, the lips acquire mouthiness, the glares become a warning.

what kind of games? (dice, board, video, computer... )
also, here you might find something for gluteny-stuff...

The goal, in my opinion, should be that they go "whut no gluten?" ... Having made gluten-free stuff before, some substitues aren't that great, but if you go with stuff that naturally doesn't have gluten in it, like rice (any rice!), it'd take someone who's gluten-conscious to recognize a safe dish. So, something like actual sushi would be good-- be careful of sauces tho, make sure you check with the restaurant if you do that...
quinoa is amazing, simple, and delicious as well-- I recommend it highly! So much can be done with it... like rice, really!
Also, this: (from the second website I listed)
"starch Reserve poly-saccharide in plants. Starches from many sources are used commercially as thickeners and gelling agents. In the U.S., when the single word "starch" appears on a food label, the source must be corn. CFR Title 21, Section 578.100 October 1, 1980. (This does not apply to starch in pharmaceuticals). "

"...and may it be that I cleave to the ugly truth, rather than the beautiful lie..."

if you're playing games i'd go low grease and low mess if possible. pretzels make a great snack.

some nerd shaped cookies, pacman should be easy.

Sounds like you're the only one making food - why not do it as a potluck though and have everyone bring something? Could be fun so long as some people can also make gluten-free things.

oh everyone does bring something, but I'm in charge of the main course (since I host at my home.) TRADTIONALLY its roast beef of some sort.

            Ooh, I see!

If you want something else in that vein, I made a really awesome pot roast for Thanksgiving from this recipe. Requires a lot of hours in the pot but really really good. Stir fry can also be awesome if you're cooking for a bunch of people; if you prep ahead and cut everything and so on, then the cooking time is only a couple minutes. Easy to do if you have a big enough pan for it (wok is ideal but you can definitely use something else). That would be gluten free too, just use whatever meat and veggies you want and then toss it over rice.
